WHO launches 2015 State of Inequality Report: reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health
The WHO launches its 2015 State of Inequality Report: reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health on next 15 June at the Pan-American Health Organization headquarters in Washington DC. The report draws on data from 86 low- and middle-income countries from all world regions, encompassing the latest status of inequality and changes over time across 23 health indicators. Analyzes made by the International Center for Equity in Health, Brazil, took into consideration four dimensions of inequality- economic status, education, place of residence and sex.
According to WHO’s welcome announcement of the State of Inequality Report, the 2015 edition demonstrates best practices in reporting the results of health inequality monitoring and introduces innovative ways for audiences to explore inequality data. A series of feature stories indicated that inequalities in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health persist, despite having narrowed over the past decade. Interactive data visualization components – including story-points, maps, and reference tables – accompany the key messages and findings of this report, allowing users to customize data displays and engage in benchmarking according to their interests.
Though the report draws on data about reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health in low- and middle-income countries, the approach and underlying concepts can be widely applied to any health topic.
