ICEH to Lead Course on Measuring Health Inequalities at Brazilian Congress of Epidemiology
The ICEH will lead the “Measuring Health Inequalities with Impact" course during the 12th Brazilian Epidemiology Congress. The course will take place in Rio de Janeiro from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM on November 23 and from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM on November 24, 2024.
This educational event is tailored for postgraduate students and epidemiology researchers, allowing them to acquire techniques for analyzing health inequalities. Fernando Wehrmeister from the International Center for Equity in Health will coordinate the course, which will include contributions from ICEH team members Luis Paulo Vidaletti, Leonardo Ferreira, Luisa Arroyave and Francine Costa.
The course is structured into three sessions. Initially, it will cover basic concepts of health inequality, focusing on measuring indicator coverage in maternal and child health, including the use of online visualization tools.
Subsequently, the course will address inequality patterns, teaching simple measures of inequality for ordered and unordered groups, and their interpretation, adding complex measures of inequality. The final segment will focus on temporal trends evaluation of health inequalities, alongside strategies for effectively presenting equity analyses.
As part of the International Center for Equity in Health's ongoing mission, this course aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake rigorous public health research and contribute to policy development in the health equity field.
