State of World Population 2017 - UNFPA report
“She was born to a poor family, in a rural community, in a poor country. Unlike her brother or her more affluent relatives in the city, she is poised to be left behind by a world that is surging forward.”
This history is shared by millions of girls and women around the globe, which is highlighted in “The State of World Population 2017” report, annually published by the United Nations Population Fund.
The report is focused on inequalities, especially in terms of socioeconomic aspects and gender. In 34 countries, income gaps between poorest and richest groups widened from 2008 to 2013. A worse scenario was found assessing gender inequalities, in which the gap between men and women increased from 2015 to 2016 in 68 countries. The summary results and all specific analyses are available as an interactive platform www.unfpa.org/swop and a final report http://www.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/sowp/downloads/UNFPA_PUB_2017_EN_SWOP.pdf.
The International Center for Equity in Health is proud to be one of the main scientific partners of this publication by providing disaggregated data of national surveys of low and middle-income countries, as well as analyses showing the wealth gaps on reproductive health.
