EQUIPLOT developed by ICEH is included in the Dictionary of Epidemiology

The EQUIPLOT a graphical tool developed by the International Center for Equity in Health (ICEH), has been included in the Dictionary of Epidemiology (Miquel Porta, 77th), one of the leading reference works in the field.

The EQUIPLOT is used to display the coverage of interventions or the occurrence of health outcomes across population subgroups, allowing for a clear visualization of both indicator levels and the differences between groups, that is, absolute inequality.

Since its introduction in 2012, the tool has been widely used in studies across different countries, including Bangladesh, Rwanda, and Brazil, and in various areas such as nutrition, maternal health, access to health services, and other indicators related to the social determinants of health.

One of its key strengths lies in its simplicity. In a field often characterized by complex inequality measures, the equiplot enables the clear communication of patterns that might otherwise be difficult to interpret.

The tool has been used in major international reports, such as those from the Countdown to 2030, and by global organizations including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as well as in a growing number of scientific publications.

Its inclusion in the Dictionary of Epidemiology reinforces the recognition of the EQUIPLOT as an important contribution to the analysis and communication of health inequalities.
