ICEH Researcher Presents Studies on Climate and Child Health at an International Event in Thailand

Leonardo Zanini Ferreira, a researcher at the International Center for Equity in Health (ICEH/UFPel), participated in the Global Heat Forum, held from October 6 to 9, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together researchers, experts, and institutional representatives to discuss the health impacts of extreme heat and strategies to address the challenges posed by climate change.

Leonardo is a member of the Children and Climate Initiative (CCI), an international consortium led by the University of Oxford, in which ICEH is a partner. The initiative conducts research on the relationships between climate change, child health, and early childhood development, aiming to generate scientific evidence that can inform public policies to protect children.

During the event, Leonardo Zanini Ferreira and Alan Stein, Director and Principal Investigator of the Children and Climate Initiative, presented different aspects of the research conducted by the consortium. The forum also provided opportunities for scientific exchange and the identification of new avenues for international collaboration.

The Global Heat Forum took place in Bangkok, alongside Bangkok Climate Action Week, which brought together organizations and experts for discussions and activities related to climate change. The participation of CCI researchers in the forum was supported by Wellcome.

Leonardo's participation in the Global Heat Forum highlights ICEH's involvement in international initiatives dedicated to investigating the effects of climate change on child health. Through its participation in the Children and Climate Initiative, ICEH contributes to the production of scientific evidence on the impacts of climatic conditions on children's health, with particular attention to inequalities and implications for public health.
