ICEH Meets with Representatives of the Brazilian Ministry of Health and PAHO to Foster Partnership

The International Center for Equity in Health (ICEH) hosted a series of meetings from August 13–16, with representatives of the Pan American Health Organization and the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

ICEH researchers, led by epidemiologists Cesar Victora and Aluisio Barros, and committee members from the Ministry of Health and PAHO/Brazil discussed strategies for collaboration between the three health-related institutions.

The first proposal is for ICEH to conduct a Ministry of Health staff training course on health inequalities data analysis, scheduled for November of this year.

The long-term deal is to include the participation of the ICEH team in working with national databases to assess health equity, with joint scientific publications.

"The cooperation aims to raise awareness among health services managers and health technicians about the importance of evaluating data and public policies through an equity framework," says ICEH researcher Fernando Wehrmeister.

The visit was attended by members of the General Coordination of Noncommunicable Diseases of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, Luciana Monteiro Vasconcelos Sardinha, Roberta de Oliveira Santos, Rafael Bello Corassa; member of the General Coordination of Information and Epidemiological Analysis of the Ministry of Health, Laís de Almeida Relvas Brandt, and representatives of the Pan American Health Organization, Akemi Kamimura, Ana Gabriela Sena, Juan Esacalante Cortez, Regiane Rezende, and Tatiana Santos.
